Book Review: Darkness Falls By Mia James

Name: Darkness Falls
Author: Mia James
Publisher: Indigo

Summary:
HIGHGATE
When April's family moved to the wealthy North London village of Highgate, she thought she'd be starting a glamorous new life-she was wrong, dead wrong. First her family was torn apart by a brutal murder, then she was attacked by a blood-thirsty monster and now her mysterious boyfriend Gabriel is dying...and it's all her fault.

MURDER
Now April is running as fast as she can to stop the killings. First she has to save Gabriel by finding a forbidden book many claim is a myth while tracking down the sinister 'Vampire Regent' she believes is behind the creepy goings on at Ravenwood school.
But April herself is in danger-she is being hunted by a desperate killer and people close to her are starting to die.

VAMPIRES
Just when April needs people to rely on, her world is turned upside down by a heartbreaking betrayal and she finds herself drawn towards the dark world of the suckers. But April has a deadly secret of her own and if the Vampires find out, the next funeral she attends.....could be her own.
Time is short, the stakes are high and surviving school has never been so tough.

Review: I totally adored By Midnight but I assumed it was a one off book.
When I found out about Darkness Falls I was excited to see what Mia James had in-store for April Dunne in the second instalment of what I now understand is the Ravenwood Mysteries.
Darkness Falls starts from where By Midnight ended and it made me feel like I had literally picked up this book straight after completing By Midnight.

Mia James' descriptive creativeness is yet again impressive and alluring. If you want to sleep shut the book otherwise you'll be tempted to keep reading.
You'd think cemeteries and creepy Vampire goings on would not make this book suitable bedtime reading yet I found I had to physically tear myself away.

How would you feel if you met the perfect guy and he wasn't what he seemed? Would you stay away or would you still be drawn to him.

There are so many unanswered questions and twists that have you on the edge of your seat.
Just like 'By Midnight' there are some similarities to Twilight, April and Gabriel are very similar to Bella and Edward.

In some scenes I feel like I want to scream out loud at April it's a good job I don't. I think my colleagues and family would think I'm crazy not to mention my fellow bus passengers. It's like the heroines in Horror films they walk into dangerous situations and you're sat on the edge of your seat saying why would you run upstairs. Yep, April has made me want to scream this at her on more than one occasion.

I adore the forbidden love story and the tension has me as a reader eager for each and every page.
There's a few characters I'm still unsure of including April's mum Silvia.
What I truly loved about this novel is that I suspected some people who didn't deserve to be questioned and I was shocked by others.
The last half of the book was so intense that I would sit there for what I thought was a few minutes, when actually an hour had past. I'd been so engrossed in the story and the twists and turns in the plot and the characters- I just couldn't put it down. I would literally have to shut the book and go to sleep, I found myself getting off buses and trains still reading.

Now, I am eager for the next chapter in April Dunne's story.
